LANTERN PARADE
FREE EVENT
6 - 7pm
HOTEL ETICO GROUNDS @ MOUNT VICTORIA MANOR 11 Montgomery St, Mt Victoria 2786
Come and take part in the lantern parade! Whether it’s DIY or ready-made, join us as we illuminate the night sky with our glowing lanterns. At astronomical twilight, we’ll first walk silently through the grounds of the historic Manor, reflecting on the Traditional Lands where we have gathered, and the histories of this site through the ages. We’ll also take a moment to consider the many challenges we’ve all faced, personally and collectively, over the past few years, and remember and honour these experiences before changing gears and celebrating, knowing there’s always light to be found in the darkness. Together we’ll help each other move forward and look to better times ahead with renewed hope. Bring family and friends and embark on a magical journey to bring light into the darkness.
No candles please, LED lights only.
Please wear gumboots or sturdy walking shoes as the ground may be a bit muddy in places if it’s been raining.

Le Voyage Dans La Lune
(A Trip To The Moon)
Georges Méliès 1902 12mins
This famous film is considered to be the first science-fiction film in cinematic history. A group of astronomers in constellation-covered robes decide to construct a rocket and travel to the Moon. They land in the poor man-in’the-moon’s eye, and set off to explore the Moon's surface. They encounter strange moon inhabitants called Selenites, and return to Earth, bringing one back home in their rocket. Originally silent - before the ‘talkies’ were invented - screenings of the original film would have been accompanied by a live musician on piano, who would add drama and emotion to the story. This version’s soundtrack is by David Short & the Billi Brass Quintet

Walk the red carpet and revel in the glitz and glamour of the Lumière Premiere! Join the artists and the films’ participants in celebrating their ycreation of 6 new, magical, short films.
———————-————————
Commissioned by MAPBM specially for Lumière, with generous support from Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust, and screened at Mount Vic Flicks courtesy of Bendigo Bank, the films explore current, relatable themes of light, liminality (the psychological experience and process of transitioning between liminal spaces / thresholds), and our eternal, hopeful quests to find light in the dark.
The films offer the chance to enjoy new cinematic experiences from intriguing perspectives, immerse in quiet, meditative, sensory spaces for respite and reflection, hear personal and historic stories, and be recharged by uplifting celebrations.
This session will be played in by the cinema’s resident theatre organist Wendy Hambly.
