Real To Reel Mentorship : Etico, Australia’s first social enterprise hotel for young adults with disabilities.
Under My Hat is a joyous, faceted portrait of seven very special people. Born out of a collaboration between artist Cinzia Cremona and the six inaugural trainees of the Hotel Etico program, and supported by MAPBM, this film highlights the creativity, resilience and unique perspectives of Joshua, Katrina, Harry, Georgia, Quinn and Jacob. Working with Cinzia, they shared personal interests usually kept ‘under their hats’ in their professional setting. With unfailing commitment, assistance and encouragement from Cinzia, Hotel Etico managers, support staff, and the trainees’ families, they played together, grew to trust each other outside of the work environment, and worked collaboratively in a fertile way. Guided by Cinzia Cremona, the trainees developed basic filmmaking skills and had the opportunity to show a side of themselves beyond their working lives at Hotel Etico. Utilising a unique pedagogical framework, Cinzia facilitated the trainees’ creation of their films, enabling them to discuss, decide, direct, film, and make personal and collaborative choices as the films developed.
